‘Scattered Light’ featured in The Wall Street Journal

Madison Square Park is glittering with ‘Scattered Light,’ the largest of three new sculptures by artist Jim Campbell (above). During the day, the sculpture looks like a series of clothes lines from which hang a multitude of light bulbs. At night, it comes alive. The 1,600 lights – hollowed out traditional bulbs that have been re-fitted with LEDs – are not all on at the same time: They are programmed to flicker so that shadows of people appear to be walking by. Presented by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, ‘Scattered Light’ will shine from sunset to sunrise until Feb. 28.
